The Greene Family added another sweet boy to their family, Easton. He is quite handsome looking very much like his older brother, Cooper when he was a baby. I was so excited to get to photograph Easton and the whole Greene Family again. You may remember their maternity session several months ago. Hadleigh Jane: Kannapolis Newborn Photographer

The weekend before last is when I got to meet the oh.so.presh Hadleigh Jane. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the accessories Miss H's Mommy had for her, it definitely made me want a girl about a billion times more! :) Hadleigh was one of the most content babies I've had the opportunity to meet so she made my job so very easy! The Daddy/Daughter pictures we captured are some of my favorites ever, there's just something especially sweet about a new Daddy and his baby girl....my heart melted. I literally cried as I edited this session because the outcome was just absolutely perfect in my eyes.

Jeremy & Jada- thank you for having me out and allowing me to create these images for you. I truly hope they will grace the walls of your home for a lifetime. My greatest hope is that you love these as much as I do...

It's Thanksgiving morning, everyone is still asleep but me. I wanted to use this quiet time to reflect and document all of the things for which I am grateful. These are in no particular order:

The God given perseverance Isaac and I have had to do anything and everything it takes to keep our marriage moving forward.
Jonah and the accomplishments I've been able to watch him make, his health, his personality, his spirit, the joy he brings us daily, and the opportunity I've been given to be his mother.
My job - I may complain at times but there are too many people in much, much worse situations.
My home - it's smaller than I'd like, not in the neighborhood I'd prefer, but it's warm and homey and it holds my family.
Isaac and his never-ending attempts to "lighten" me up. He loves me unconditionally, through the bad and the good. He's a great father and friend. He will always carry a piece of my heart.
Walker, my four legged son...he's touched my heart in ways no human can.
My Mom, she is one of the strongest women I know. She's shaped me into the woman I am today.
My brothers, they've always been my protectors and I believe they always will be.
My cat, she's my white, fuzzy friend. Her companionship is limited because she's a cat, but I still love her.
My best friends Trish, Christy, and Brandi. I miss you ladies beyond measure and I hope someday, we live in the same state again. I know we don't talk often enough because life moves so quickly, but I love how we always pick up where we left off. I love you all more than you know and think of each of you daily!
My health, cancer free now for almost 11 years. No other major health issues. Ever.
The future, I'm excited about the possibility of a new home and a new addition to our family. I'm even more excited that we have the resources and ability to potentially grow and move forward in the ways we want.
My car, the 4-Runner. I'm grateful to have something reliable and dependable to cart my family and I around.
My church, our pastor never fails to inspire and challenge me. My spirituality is not where I know it needs to be and I'm grateful to be part of a church who gently pushes me in the right direction.
The hearts I've had the privilege to touch through photography.

I know there are many, many more but these are the biggest ones. I hope you'll take some time today to reflect on the things for which you're grateful. It's a great exercise to put things into perspective, particularly if you've been going through difficult times.

I made a VERY secret (and short) trip back home a few weeks ago to surprise Trish with a photo session of her newest bundle of joy, her third baby girl: Ava Grace. I also made sure to make time to take Haven and Maddie outside for some special photos of them too. If you didn't see me, I apologize, I was on a mission and had very little extra time, I was there for less than 24 hrs. Trish and I have been friends since we were 2, yes 2. Her mom babysat me and we've been like sisters ever since. We have a bond that has never been broken by silly arguments or disagreements, boys, growing apart, when I stole her Barbie clothes, etc. She cried when she missed Jonah's birth and I've cried when I missed her big moments too. I love her like a sister and I couldn't imagine my life without her. Someday, I hope we're rocking on the front porch, sipping iced tea, watching our grandchildren play. :) Can't wait! I love you Trish and I'm glad to have had the opportunity to do this for you.

Country Days Corn Maze

Several weeks ago we took Jonah to Country Days Corn Maze in Indian Trail. We went there as opposed to the usual pumpkin patch we visit in the Fall. I saw some photos on a friend's Facebook page of her in a cotton field and I just has to know where it was. When she told me it was at a corn maze, I knew we had to go! Unfortunately, most of the cotton had already been picked so I know now that next year we'll need to go in September when it's more full. Stay tuned because I'll probably be asking for models at that time! ;)

Discovery Harbor Learning Center 2011 Fall Festival

Isaac and I volunteered at Jonah's school last Friday and had so much fun watching the kids react to each station the school had set up. They picked pumpkins, "bobbed" for apples, "fished" for little fish, picked a new rubber Ducky, and more! I took as many pictures of as many children as I could but these little friends were sooo excited it was hard to capture it all!

David & Kelly: Charlotte Engagement Photographer

Have you ever noticed how it makes you feel to be around a couple who is absolutely head over heels in love with one another? Pretty good, eh? That's how I felt all morning this past Saturday with these two love birds. They just got engaged October 16th in a hot air balloon above Asheville, NC! How romantic is that! I had the privilege of working with David for about a year and he and I got to know one another pretty well since we sat right next to each other. We basically chatted over the cube wall all day long. Anyone who knows him knows that he is an outstanding man, and after finally meeting Kelly on Saturday I decided she's pretty amazing too! :) These two are made for each other, and it made me so happy to see "our little David" as we refer to him at work so incredibly happy. David was so excited about our session, he was our tour guide taking us to each location that he had previously scouted out. I couldn't have asked for anything more; an amazing, excited couple on an incredible Autumn morning! It was perfect, see.....

Kelly, you're gorgeous. Period.

Last year we started a new annual tradition, a family beach trip around Isaac's Birthday and Labor Day. You may remember reading this post that I wrote when we returned last year. This year we went to Carolina Beach, which was a much shorter drive than our Emerald Isle trip last year. We LOVE non-commercialized beaches. Carolina Beach is a little more commercialized than Emerald Isle. Another difference this year is that we decided we wanted to take Walker and we are so glad we did. Hurricane Irene threatened the beginning of our vacation but other than some wind and rain the first evening we weren't really impacted. We had an amazing time, and have decided that moving to the beach is a lot more feasible than we thought a year ago. Isaac works for Time Warner and there is a location in Wilmington. We're hoping in the next few years we can transfer down there.... that's where our hearts are anyway.

Last Sunday morning, 7 AM to be exact, I met up with the Bellinas at one of my favorite places- Latta Plantation. The light wasn't exactly what I was hoping for at first since there was some cloud coverage and it was pretty chilly but we made the best of it for sure! I had such a blast with these four, I was seriously laughing the whole time. Logan and Lila were beyond entertaining and such good sports even though poor Lila was freezing!

Aiden's REALLY BIG Day - Huntersville Children's Photographer

Aiden turned ONE last week! I can't believe how fast time flies, I know I know, I sound like such a broken record but I just cannot get over it. Aiden's parents have given me the privilege of photographing their sweet boy time and time again and I can't thank them enough for continuing to choose me. I've had such a fun time getting to know the whole family over the last year!

Last Saturday, Aiden was baptized and it was the sweetest occasion I think I've ever witnessed. George and Jodi asked me to be there to capture this special day and I am so glad they did, it was awesome to be invited to such an intimate moment. I've posted all of the photos from this portion of the day in black and white because they capture the innocence and simplicity of the affair.... and they're my favorites and it's my blog. :)

After the baptism Aiden went home for a much needed nap before his birthday bash that started later in the day. I was there to capture the party as well and it was a blast- up until an unnamed incident that happened to my own child causing us to depart prematurely- lovely. Besides that, we had so much fun along with everyone else!

George & Jodi- From the bottom of my heart, thank you both for your kindness and generosity. You both, and Aiden of course, mean a lot to me and I truly mean that. Thanks for always being open to my ideas, for always cooperating, and for all of the referrals you've sent my way! I will be forever grateful. Greene Family - Charlotte Maternity Photographer

I met Andrew and Lyndsi a few years ago at work. Lyndsi had just had their first son, sweet Cooper, and I was pregnant with Jonah. We became fast friends after that since we had endless "baby" issues to discuss. Lyndsi read all the books and told me what they said. I am convinced if it wasn't for her I would've had a much more difficult infant. :) Thanks, Lyndsi, for playing such an important role in Jonah's first year of life. You helped me stay sane.

I'm so excited that the Greene family will be welcoming a new baby boy: Easton. I can't wait to meet him and I hope I'll have the privilege of getting this whole family in front of my camera after he makes his big debut. Cooper is going to be such a great big brother, I can tell he's so excited for his baby brother (and future wrestling opponent)!

Lyndsi - I hope you love these images of the most amazing time in your life. You're so blessed to be doing it a second time, and to be looking so fabulous at the same time!!! Thanks for coming out so early and allowing me the honor to capture your sweet, growing family.

Lynn contacted me after her sweet 9 year old lab, Luna, was diagnosed with cancer. She wanted to capture her beautiful girls interacting with Luna so that she would forever have those images to treasure. As a dog (and cat) owner myself, I understand just how special pets are to the family. They are not just animals, they are a part of the family. I always joke that Walker was my first born. :) We met at Frank Liske Park a couple of months ago and got a few shots with Luna before the weather rudely interrupted our session. We rescheduled, only to be threatened by weather again. We finally got the opportunity to complete our session at Latta Plantation and had an early morning, sunshiney session filled with a lot of laughs! Lynn- I truly had such a fun time with your family. I hope you are thrilled with the result!

So, I've been really struggling lately with writing. It has been a never ending case of writer's block for quite a while now. However, I am never out of words when it comes to Jonah.... except when I'm speechless of course. I never knew what it meant when mother's said their hearts beat outside of their bodies until I became one myself. I won't get all emotional on you, but I love this little person more than I thought was possible... and I would go to the ends of the Earth to make sure he always knows that.

I've been meaning to post these for quite a while now, but just like painters' houses usually need painted, my personal photos go ignored much more than they should. These were taken in Belmont, NC on a sunny Sunday evening.

What else is there to say really? I don't understand why time seems to continue to pick up speed. Does it just keep getting faster the older you get or does it slow down again at some point? I am praying that it slows down because it really goes way too fast....

Aiden is already 9 months old. It doesn't seem that long ago that I was walking up to George and Jodi's door to do Aiden's newborn pictures. He's grown so much, developed the sweetest personality, and it obviously absolutely gorgeous! Those eyes and eyelashes are to.die.for. I seriously love him!

We've been spending a lot of time at Latta Equestrian Center in Huntersville. Since we moved here almost 5 years ago it's been a favorite spot for us. Latta Plantation is a huge park, complete with the Equestrian center, Raptor Center, Nature Center, numerous canoe drops, miles and miles of trails, etc etc. Basically, it's our kind of place. Isaac and I both have a passion for horses that is only understood by those who have the same passion. We've been volunteering at the Equestrian Center to get some hands on experience because we hope to get a horse of our own in the not too distant future. :)

I remember when I was pregnant with Jonah - the wonder, the joy, the unknown... it was so incredibly exciting and one of the most amazing times in our lives. Words can't describe the bond that I already had with the tiny person that hadn't yet met the world. I can see on Diana and Jeff's faces that they feel the same way. This is their first child and they're waiting until this precious angel is born to find out if they're going to be buying pink or blue. I can't wait to meet this precious baby, and I can only imagine how excited Jeff and Diana are. I just know they are going to make such sweet, wonderful parents!

I don't even know how to start this post... Heather is seriously my BIGGEST fan - when it comes to photography that is. She has been a constant encourager when I feel doubtful, and not only about photography. She's been a friend. From the first time she worked her magic on my hair I knew she had a sweet and pure heart. She's kind, funny, and drop dead gorgeous and I am more than honored that she trusted me to shoot her engagement photos, two bridal portrait sessions (seen here and here), and of course her amazing wedding.

Her wedding was held at Palisades Country Club and every detail was breathtaking. The most incredible part is that she did a lot of it herself. The staff at the country club was superb, I could seriously go on and on about how wonderful everything was. I must say, an image that is still burning in my heart is how Clint adoringly looked at her each moment he could. From the very instant he saw her coming down that grand staircase, you could just feel the love seeping from his heart. He was genuinely happy, and it was so refreshing to witness. Heather was stunning, and I was *almost* moved to tears when I saw her in her gown. She was glowing, inside and out. Surrounded by family and friends who love and adore her only added to the glow. I am so happy I was there to witness it all. When Clint and Heather said their vows, you could feel the depth of their love and when they were announced husband and wife you could see their joy. I could literally go on and on telling each emotion, each detail, but I won't. I'll let the photos do that. I am so grateful that I had my friend and coworker, Amber Mobley, there with me to help me capture it all!

Thank you, Heather, for always cheering me on. Thank you for trusting me to capture yours and Clint's love, I have enjoyed it beyond belief. I wish you and Clint a lifetime of love and laughter!

Lauren & Taylor: Charlotte Wedding Photographer

My very first wedding as the main photographer was April 16th. The weather made the day interesting, but everything pretty much went as planned. The girls got ready at The Villa at Waters Edge, the guys at The Palmer Building, which is also where the reception was held. After everyone was ready we were off to St. Mary's Chapel for the ceremony. Once the ceremony was finished we went back to The Palmer Building for some quick wedding party and shots before it was time to party!

Thank you Lauren for choosing and trusting me to capture one of the most important days of your life. I wish you and Taylor all the happiness in the world!

Yesterday was Heather and Clint's wedding, and it was absolutely gorgeous!! Seeing them so happy and in love made my heart so happy! More to come on that though! I got to meet a brand new baby girl named Isabella last week, and she was sooo stinkin cute! Being around her made the baby fever go up a few notches for sure! Her Mom and Dad are part of our CARES by Apartment Life ministry at our church. I love having the opportunity to use my talents to serve God and serve the members of my church who work hard to make it the amazing place that it is! I worry a lot about what I write on this blog, even though it's mine. I type sentences and then delete, re-type and delete, until it's as close to perfect as I imagined it would be. When I have "writers block"- which I say VERY loosely because I definitely don't consider myself a writer, I usually end up being very vague and simple instead of creating the post I had originally thought about. I am my biggest enemy and worst critic. I anxiously wait to hear back from my clients on what they think of their pictures and blog posts because in my heart I want to make sure every single person that hires me falls in love with what I capture with my lens, my eyes, and my heart. But occasionally, there's someone who notices something else about me. When I write from my heart and let the world in on my deepest feelings and emotions, my most personal thoughts, my inner treasures something magical sometimes happens. When Niki saw me at work after she read my Perseverance post she told me that my words had touched her and that she had even began to cry at her desk. This touched me more than there are words for, it was so personal, so raw, and hardly anyone else commented on it even though it has probably been the most important post I've ever written - to me anyway. Niki wanted me to take her family photos not only because she likes my style and knows me, but because she appreciates my heart, and I appreciate hers back. Niki and Jeff- I had so much fun with you both and your sweet, beautiful girls. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kind words and for trusting me to capture your amazing family!

I've went back to working on the website. It HAS to be done by April.
I own the domain name "Cara Justus Photography" now and it feels good.
My new blog address (as soon as I figure out how to change it) will be cjphotographyblog.com. This also feels good.
My first two weddings are two weekends in a row in April. I am both extremely nervous and excited.
Jonah is 2 1/2. NUTS.
My husband and I are putting more effort into our relationship than we ever have. The changes are evident, obvious, and lovely.
Spring is here.... hopefully. It's been a dead, brown winter and I'm over it.
I'm currently sitting in a quiet house on my favorite day of the week. Loving every minute.
I'm about to get VERY BUSY at work, which I'm looking forward to.
I'm taking applications for Charlotte friends. Like do-things-outside-of-work-at-least-once-a-month kind of friends. I am an introvert who needs to balance my extrovert side... and fast.
The last bullet point may sound like a joke but it's not. Well, I'm not really taking applications, but I'm praying.
I really want to join a flag football or softball team.
I am working on my "bucket list." Will post one of these days....
The beach is calling my name. Unfortunately, my wallet is answering for me....it says no.
I STILL need to finish my taxes... ewwww.
My husband made me homemade sugar cookies yesterday while I raked the yard.
I am ready to have another baby... but it's not the right time.

I won't bore you anymore with this boring list with no exclamation points, which I usually use too frequently!!!!!!! See, I told you.

Honestly though, I am really looking forward to the future- both short term and long term. I am excited about life, family, God, photography... just everything. All the possibilities, all the happiness! :)

I'll leave you with a few recent photos of me courtesy of Isaac. We had a "day date" a little over a week ago and decided to go uptown to take some photos of me to use for my website and blog. We had fun exploring and just being together. No pressure, no responsibilities. I think it's an understatement to say that is was much needed for both of us. :)

I was asked if I would be interested in being on the list of "photographer volunteers" for our church.... Um, can you say, YES YES YES!! My first project was to photograph two families of our Apartment Life ministry who needed a much deserved "thank you"!

First up, the Greene's! These two are still newlyweds and are expecting their first little angel! Congratulations Jeff and Diana!! I hope I get the opportunity to hang out with you guys again, you were a blast!

Next, the Rampey's...a super fun family of four! Their two precious kiddos were such a joy to photograph and made my job so easy! Aaron and Liz, thanks for being up for anything, especially braving the cold, so we could capture this fun and special time in your lives!

A BIG thank you to Jamie and Kerri for playing (and spoiling) Jonah so we could make these shoots happen! I am so grateful to be a part of such an amazing church family!

Heather definitely wins the award for the most thought and preparation anyone has ever put into their own photo shoot. She had bought antiques, borrowed precious keepsakes from her grandmother, hand-made accessories, bought LOTS of beautiful florals, enlisted the help of her mother and maid of honor....I'm telling you, she was prepared, and I was SOOO excited!

Heather is my biggest fan and supporter, always making sure I know how talented and how great I am...our relationship has become much more than hairdresser/client and photographer/client... we're friends, and I hope she knows how much I value her friendship. Thank you Heather for all of your kind words....words cannot express my gratitude but simply put, I'm thankful for your heart. I CANNOT wait to witness yours and Clint's wedding in April and see God bring your two beautiful hearts into one!

It hadn’t been long since I had pulled in this driveway. The stork was gone though, now there were pumpkins on either side of the door, a gentle reminder of my favorite season – Autumn. George was outside, putting up the WV flag on his house even though his team Syracuse, was playing inside. George’s wife’s brother along with his wife and son, Noah, traveled to NC from their home state of WV for a weekend visit. My job was easy: get some shots of the families, and especially the new cousins, Noah and Aiden, together as a Christmas surprise for Grandma. I can’t wait to hear about her reaction to seeing these photos of the boys together (she thinks Christmas will be the first time they’re together!)!

Thank you all for choosing and trusting me to capture such a special gift! I hope you are thrilled with these memories!

P.S. For the record, I didn't intend on almost every single photo in this post to be black and white. After I had marked my absolute favorites though (out of almost 200) these were what I had chosen. Oh, how I love black and white. Hope you love them too!

Woody & Ginny

I didn’t expect it. I have been a guest at a handful of weddings, maid of honor at one, and a bridesmaid in a few as well. Oh, and I’ve been the bride before too! I always cry during the vows, that moment when two become one in front of God, family, and friends. At Ginny and Woody’s wedding, I didn’t expect to cry. I had never met either of them, had no connection with anyone present, except for my friend Amber who asked me to second shoot for her.

I made it through the preparation just fine, all of the girls bouncing around with smiles and energy, champagne being passed out, makeup applications, hair dos, and even a tiny baby boy being awed over and loved on. I didn’t cry.

We made it to the house the wedding was being held at, Ginny quickly slipped her dress on, so quickly that we asked her to take it back off so Amber could get a few shots of it! She slipped it back on… still, I hadn’t cried.

A few moments with Woody and the guys for a few shots- definitely didn’t cry then, just laughed!

I watched behind the lens as the wedding party approached the ceremony site, two at a time, arm in arm. I watched Ginny being lead so sweetly by her father, and as a father reluctantly gave his baby girl away… still no tears.

I was doing good, no embarrassing sobbing or running makeup (think, “The Crow”) when it happened. It was time for the father/daughter dance. As most of you know, I don’t have a relationship with my father, so I’m always quite envious of a father adoring his daughter. It’s a struggle in my heart, and I am constantly reminding myself that my Father is God and I frequently close my eyes and envision His embrace. I weep behind the lens and hope no one sees…. And in that moment I am reminded again why I love this art of photography and why I’m grateful for the opportunity to witness such sweet exchanges of emotion.

That's a little story about my experience, but I'll let the photos tell the full story....

But first....Ginny and Woody, thank you for being open to Amber bringing me along. You both made me feel like I was a part of your day and I appreciate that more than you know! I hope you both had an amazing honeymoon and are blissfully enjoying each moment together now.

This wedding was last month and my friend Amber asked me to second shoot her first wedding with her. Of course, I was beyond excited and honored that she would ask me! It was a GREAT learning experience and really helped prepare me for the wedding Isaac and I are shooting next April. Thanks Amber for choosing me, and for trusting me to assist you with a milestone in both of our photography journeys, I appreciate it more than you know!

I knew I had found the Betts' home when I saw the huge stork in the front yard introducing a new life into the neighborhood. I unloaded my "accessories," stepped up on the porch, and waited for a minute. It had been over a year since I photographed a newborn, which meant it had probably been just as long since I held one. I didn't want to seem awkward or nervous, but I felt just that. I rang the doorbell and George, who also happens to be my manager, answered the door welcoming me and all my madness in. The smile on his face is something I'll never forget as he proudly announced, "he's in here." I walked in to their home, their ultimate place of peace, and Jodi stood up from the couch holding an angel. My nerves lessened as I admired this gorgeous new blessing. My heart filled to the rim, almost spilling the love and joy through my eyes. Newborns just do it to me. And seeing new parents in awe over this precious, tiny person is something that touches my soul the way the ocean does, or the way my own son does. I tried to take it all in, to notice the way George and Jodi looked at one another, and the way they looked at Aiden. George was obviously oozing with pride and Jodi was constantly looking at Aiden in admiration and making sure everything was just right. And it was perfect. He was perfect. They were perfect.

We headed upstairs hunting the light, found it, and got started. The little bean was awake most of our session and as I looked in his eyes through the lens, I could imagine the child he would become, the man he would become. It was refreshing, and gave me new life. I got to meet Casey, their sweet boxer, who made my boxer look like a bull in a china shop. Casey was just as good of a big brother as Walker is, and I just know Aiden and Casey will be the best of friends. We made our way outdoors, and I am so grateful we did, that's where I feel most at home when I'm holding my camera.... and I think Aiden liked it too. We soaked up God's bright, end of summer sunshine, and ended the session under the trees.

George and Jodi, thank you so much for trusting ME to capture these most precious of moments of your new family. You guys are gorgeous, inside and out, and I hope I have the opportunity to continue to watch Aiden grow, no matter if it's from behind the lens or not. Congratulations on your new love, the greatest love you'll ever experience. Never forget these days! I hope you both love these photos even more than I do.

Have you ever been in a situation that you felt was hopeless, and you had already given up on it turning around? More than that, were you so scared and angry that you didn't want it to turn around? Yea, me too..... then God intervened.

Rewind to December, 2006....Our wedding day was nothing short of interesting. You may already know the story but in case you don't here's a quick recap. Isaac was rushed to the ER the morning of our wedding with intense back pain, vomiting, and passing out. After some tests were ran, it was determined that it was a kidney stone causing his discomfort. A bag of fluid and some pain medicine and he was on his way to the church. He told me that the day would go as planned. Easy for him to say. I cried and felt sorry for myself, this was supposed to be MY day. Dang it. Well, we said our vows, spent the bare minimum amount of time at the reception and were on our way to our hotel. I think you can probably imagine what the photos from that day look like: not pretty. So, four hard years later we decided it was time for some new pictures... and a new wedding day story.

I've been thinking about this post since Isaac and I scheduled our "renewal of vows" photo shoot with Lauren. I feel like I have something to prove to the world, something important to say. Well, here it is- we serve a God that can do things beyond your wildest dreams! In my opinion far too many people humanize God and limit His abilities. Many of you know the struggles Isaac and I have had, too many of you actually. I'm here to apologize for that. Those struggles were broadcasted way too publicly and it's one of the biggest regrets of my life. We've lost friends since then, and I'm pretty sure we've both lost a lot of respect for completely different reasons. Others have judged us to the core. But that's not where the story ends. Our love today is stronger than it ever has been, thanks to our amazing and faithful God. During that time, my body felt as if it could not withhold the weight of my heart. My heart was heavier than an elephant and I prayed I would not feel that way forever. I heard God whispering four tiny words the whole time, "don't give up yet." As time went by I began to feel lighter, until all I could do was praise Him and thank Him. I knew better things were coming my way. I kept hearing it though, it was deafening and resonating in my soul. Not long after that, it happened. My heart stirred and my soul ached for the man that has always stolen my breath away, but was it loneliness or memories of what was? No, I can confidently say God had intervened. As much as logic and pride protested, I gave up and gave in to God. And that's when Isaac and I came together in the way God originally intended. Since then, things have been less than perfect, as any marriage. But I can say honestly today that I would not change my decision. My husband is amazing, more amazing than even I imagined him to be. He is constantly in search of a deeper relationship with Jesus, leading our spiritual life, and being the husband and father I've dreamed of. Is he perfect? No. Everyone makes mistakes, everyone sins- that's why Jesus died on the cross for each and every one of us. But he's all mine, until death do us part. Perseverance is a trait I wish every marriage had, but it comes straight from God, in our case anyway.

Isaac's and my prayer is that God will always intervene, that we'll always persevere, and that He'll continue to lead us down this path toward being more like Him. Thanks for reading friends, these are the deepest of deep feelings from my heart.

BUT, this is the most amazing part- the photos! Lauren was incredible to work with. She helped bring my vision to life. We will be eternally grateful for these photos and the emotions captured. Lauren, never stop living this dream, you are amazing my friend.

The most important, emotional, and memorable part of the whole evening was when we read handwritten vows to one another. This is why we needed to do this. Not only for exceptional photos, but to renew the commitment we made to each other almost 4 years ago.

Emerald Isle (Heaven on Earth)

Isaac and I were more than ready for a vacation when September 4th rolled around and it was finally the day we were leaving for Emerald Isle. This past year we have been through so much more than the average couple and it was time to get away from it all and reconnect to the important things in life. We have spent the previous two years at Topsail Island with a previous friend's amazing grandparents so we knew we wanted to go back to an uncommercialized, relaxed area. We chose Emerald Isle after suggestions and research, and it was incredible! We were there for an entire week, which I think is one of the reasons it was so great. Our past vacations were always long weekends, which is just not enough time to really escape. Long story short, it was simply incredible. This trip solidified both of our desires to live at the beach at some point in our lives in a beach house I'm going to name "Heaven on Earth." I can't wait! Of course, the primary reason for this post is to share the photos so let's do this! These are a few of my favorites, but there are lots more in this Facebook album.

This is the sunrise God painted for ME Sunday morning (our first morning). I woke up early to watch the sunrise, toted my Bible, notepad and pen, and camera down to the beach to watch the glory. I was moved to tears as I heard "this is where you belong" over and over again. I can't really explain it, it probably sounds insane to some people, but if there's one thing I inherited from my father it's the deepest of deep love for the ocean. I felt at home, like I belonged there, and I felt closer to God in that moment than I had in a while.

There were tons of shells, mostly broken, but they were all beautiful.

I cannot believe it- my baby is 2! I'm the Mom of a 2 year old now! Wow! Time has flown by so quickly, but what an amazing journey it has been, raising this little monkey of ours!

Jonah has the quirkiest personality, I just love it! He pushes me to be more carefree and to enjoy the simple moments in life. His laugh is beyond infectious and his smile is angelic. His temper tantrums range from pouting to laying on the floor kicking and screaming. If you're a parent of a toddler, I would highly recommend reading 'The Happiest Toddler on the Block'- man has it been helpful. My friend and fellow toddler mother, Lyndsi, graciously let me borrow hers and I've been reading here and there when I have free time at work. I have learned so much, but most of all, I've learned that it's ok that I need parenting advice, I'm not meant to know everything!

I've said it a hundred times, but I'll say it again and again for as long as I live- Jonah has been the single most incredible blessing I could've ever hoped for. Motherhood has completely exceeded my expectations and I can't wait for the future and to continue witnessing this tiny person who is all mine transform with each stage of his life. I'm so grateful God has trusted me with the responsibility of raising one of His children!

Rising Star Interview- Christy Foreman

Where to begin? Christy and I have been friends, well more like sisters sharing one heart, for about 7 years. She is like an extension of me, even though we now live over 200 miles from one another. We've had somewhat similar backgrounds, went to the same high school, and have shared too many memories to count- from tears to pee in your pants laughter! I love her more than I think she knows, and I am so grateful for her and her friendship. We've both grown into mature Christian women who seek Jesus like no other! We encourage one another when the other is down and we share a love for photography.

Christy has blown me away with her desire and love for photography. She stays up late researching, keeps up with other photographers and genuinely cannot get enough of it. She has taught me, encouraged me, and mentored me to be all that I can be. She is an amazing person inside and out and she is an incredible photographer. I am so excited for her and cannot wait to continue to watch her grow!

When did you know photography had your heart?
I knew that I have always loved the art of photography. I have always liked taking pictures, that stopping time moment. I have to be completely honest, though, and say that when I first picked up a DSLR, which was in NC when I was taking some snapshots of, well, YOU Cara, I fell in love with the camera itself. Now, please do not mistake me because I do not by any means believe the camera is what makes a picture, but it's like I had this light bulb go off in my head that this is what I was meant to do. I bought my first DSLR a few months later and ever since photography has "had my heart."

Why do you hope clients decide to hire you?
I want my people to hire me because they love ME and my art! I want them to know that I like to use smiley faces and exclamation points when I write e-mails or blog posts;) I try to make all of my clients feel special and very relaxed and comfortable. I do not want it to be like the traditional photo session AT ALL! It is meant to be about their personal style and I want them to be able to look at my blog and website and know that and KNOW ME! I hope to stop special memories in time so that my clients can cherish them for a lifetime.

What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learned thus far in your journey?
I can honestly say the most valuable thing I have learned so far is to never take my art for granted. What I mean by that is....and I think that all photographers at one time or another have done this, is to look at another photographer's pictures and wish upon wish that my pictures could look like hers or his. I have learned to appreciate mine! I have my own style and my own eye for beauty that our great GOD above gave to me and no one else has that very same thing;)

What or who inspires you the most?
I have to say WHAT inspires me the most is that I simply know that I love what I am doing when I am behind the camera. I have never really found something that I have just really loved doing until I found photography to be something that I knew I would be really interested in as a career. I find that it pushes me to learn all the time. I mean there is always something new to learn from something that I have previously learned. Know what I mean?!?! There are so many great photographers out there that inspire me to better myself. What I mean by this is not that I want my photos to look exactly like theirs, because I have my own style and keep developing in that, but I study their work and their technical skills and how they got to where they are today. It gives me that extra push to "keep on keepin' on." My pastor actually used that phrase last Sunday at church and it simply made me smile. For a couple of reasons. 1) because I remembered when Joe Dirt said it and 2) because I know in my heart that is what I truly need to do, as hard as it may seem sometimes and as busy as my life is, I know it will pay of in the end!

What’s your favorite shot you’ve taken so far?
My favorite shot that I have taken thus far is a shot that I took of my son Ayden. I was still trying to really figure my camera out and I had just switched over from auto to AP mode (I was slowly trying to ease into shooting manual) and I was shooting with my 50MM 1.8 which I love with all of my heart. Kaleb, and Joe had went hunting I believe which left Taylure, Ayden and I at home so of course I used this time for a mini photoshoot. It probably would not seem like anything special to many people, but something about this photo makes my heart melt. The look on his little face, he looks so innocent. He has his lips just a tad puckered and his eyes are not the sharpest ever but you can read into his soul. Like a sweet little angel. I look at this photo often and it makes me smile every time I do. This is what it's all about!

Where would your dream shooting location be?
My dream shooting location...ahhhh, would my kids be coming..hehe...No, seriously, If I could shoot anywhere it would be a lake or beach-y area that was kind of like not with alot of people there. I was recently reading a photographers blog that I absolutely adore and she was talking about Lake Michigan and it's beauty and showing some photos and I thought, YES that is where I would love to do a shoot. In the early morning just as the sun is rising, then again in midday on an overcast day and then again in the evening as the sun was setting. I know I know three photoshoots at the same place in one day at your dream location. Sounds like, well, a dream! I would just like a sort of deserted type area that has ends of beautiful-ness that our GOD himself created for me to capture moments for someone that would last forever.

What advice would you give someone just starting out in this great big intimidating world of photography?
For starters I still consider myself as needing advice and I am continuously looking for it! I stalk blogs (yes I said stalk) for FAQ's and any advice that anyone is willing to offer. Now when I say I stalk blogs I say this because I love to blog. A piece of advice that I have to offer, because I know from experience, is not to get caught up studying others work so much that you lose sight of what your own artistic abilities are. What I mean by this is, sure get inspiration from others' blogs, get FAQ's and information, but don't sit there and wish upon wish that your photos could be like theirs or study their work so much that it takes away from your own creativity. You have to appreciate your artistic abilities and what GOD has given YOU! It is easy to get discouraged and if you love what you are doing try hard to...Never get discouraged! Don't you dare hang that camera up or open that box up with the intention of putting it away..NONO...(imagine my finger waving back and forth.) Yes, it will be alot of work and you will have to study alot of different aspects of photography but if you stick with it, it will pay off for you in the end. It is about heart. If you don't have your heart in it as with anything, others will be able to know. There have been times, I will go ahead and admit, that I have taken a set of pictures and looked at them in post processing and thought "ahhh geez, i could have done better" but then I have to know that this is a learning experience and I am still learning and always will be. I will never be perfect! I practice all I can and I encourage others to practice. alot. On objects, on family members, friends, anything and everything. My dream and goal is to be the best photographer I can be for ME and my clients that choose to hire me. I don't need to be a superstar, I just want to be ME and that's the kind of attitude I encourage others to have. Don't try to compete to be the best of the best at all times. Just put your heart in it, get behind that camera and make time stop even if it's for a brief moment. Much Love!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years?
In 5 years I see myself as a wife of an amazing husband, mommy to a 14 year old, 10 year old and 6 year old...OM-Goodness can I take a second and pick myself up off the floor. Saying my childrens ages in 5 years made me almost pass out;) I am not quite sure where this photography journey will take me but I know that my Maker had my plans made for me before I was even born and HE will carry me through whatever the future may hold for me.
In 10 years I see myself again as a wife to an even more amazing husband of NOW 14 years, mommy to a 19 year old, 15 year old and 11 year old. OK now I'm just going to have to step away for a moment because that is really freaking me out.....Ok, I'm back now. Again, Not so sure about my photography journey or any other life journey but I trust that HE is with me every second of every day.

Other than photography, what has your heart?
Well, I guess from the question above you can probably guess what or WHO has my heart...My Savior, my husband, and my three adorable children. Without them I simply wouldn't be me and if there wasn't a ME then this world would be no fun! I always know that I can talk to my Savior day or night and He is always listening. If I need guidance it seems that I hear the answer through a church song or a friend giving me advice or the sermon that my pastor is giving that week. HE is always there. Honestly, if I start talking about my husband and kids I could go on and on for days. This is how it is...We are known, by me, as the "fabulous 5", we love each other alot, we bicker at each other over silly stuff (like who left toothpaste marks on the sink, in the boys bathroom) we help each other out, like any family should, even though we have to repeat over and over sometimes "boys don't go outside until you help clean up after dinner." Taylure and I will go in together in the mornings to wake the boys up for school or daycare and she gives them a big hug and says, very loudly "come on boys." Like I said I could go on and on, but i won't because I'm using run on sentences like I do often and I know it's really annoying. Basically, they are my world.
Another person that holds a piece of my heart and always has and will is my sister, Kim. She is like the other half of me and people think we are twins. No really. We don't think we look alike, but other people do. I laugh at her alot because she's really funny. She doesn't laugh at me very much, I guess I'm not quite as funny as her. What she doesn't realize is that I am very funny, but I get all my funnies out before she gets here so she doesn't get to hear them. Her and I are tight like spandex. She's my sissy and I love her bunches.

What do you think sets you apart from the rest?
Of course, it would have to be the fact that I am a superhero. Not many people knew this, until I just announced it in this interview. Until now, I have kept it very low key and today I am finally announcing it to the world. Ok, we are be serious. sshhheesh. I want my clients to feel special! I want them to feel comfortable and I want to get to know something about them. I love children, I know you would think I would get tired of them, but I love them and I LOVE to shoot them! Haha I just made a funny! (See Kim) I want them to come to their session feeling like they already know me either through my blog or website and of course chatting through e-mail. Then I want them to leave from their session happy, and so excited to see their photos from the session they can hardly stand it! One thing I try to always do is give my clients a peak from their session either the same day if I'm able or a day or two later. The thing is, I have walked in those shoes before and I know they want to see something and honestly I am probably as excited to see them as they are! Basically, I think the main thing that sets me apart from all the rest is my eye. There's not another one out there in all the world exactly like it to capture the beauty of this world and I appreciate that.

i took this photo at my home just after it rained. the leaf just sort of spoke to me. and i love the way the simplicity of it.

i absolutely LOVE this image! what can i say, i LOVE these people. they had love for each other like you wouldn't believe and this image shows their fun side.

Cute little baby feet. Oh how I love them! They always smell so good, they are so little, so pure and so soft.

Aaahhhh, this one has my heart...it's my children. Taken on Easter playing outside and I captured Ayden and Kaleb letting Taylure smell a flower. Oh the simple life of being little again. This is what life is all about.

One of my favs because two of my best buds renewed their vows after many years of marriage. He surprised her with it and asked me to do some photos. I was overjoyed and had so much fun watching them in love! This is one of my favorites of the day!

Another photo taken at my home. This little guy hung around for a few days and finally let me take some photos of him. Unfortunate for him, I caught him, taking Oreo's (our cat) food! I just think it's adorable, a bird eating out of a cat dish.

The Olin's - Charlotte Family Photographer

The Olin's, Morgan and Garrett (and Jay) to be more exact, won the Lasting Love Story contest that I had recently. If you missed that post, be sure to read it so you can get up to speed on their story!

We met at Independence Park, the oldest park in Charlotte, for their session last Sunday. It was pretty darn hot, but the light was to-die-for! The park was buzzing with families and even a pot-bellied pig, but I think the cutest family of all was the one in front of my camera! :) I noticed after I was going through everything after the session that I had taken A LOT of Jay! He was like a magnet- so stinkin cute and BRAVE!

Morgan and Garrett, thank you so much for meeting up with me to have some fun! I hope I captured some moments that you'll cherish for a lifetime!

I took Jonah to the Latta Plantation today to have some fun, eat lunch, and see some horses. When we got out of the car to walk to our picnic site I heard loud Spanish music. At first I thought it was some sort of a concert, but then I realized it was a church service. It was so moving to see a group of Christians, just like me, singing and worshipping our God by the water....even though they were speaking another language. I heard a lot of hallelujahs and saw a lot of hands raised toward Heaven. I was in tears as I watched them and thanked God that we have the privilege to live in a country that allows us to worship Him anywhere!

Whew! It has been one heck of a week! Our trip home to TN last weekend was so much fun, but also exhausting as usual! When Monday rolled around I was hurting! I made it through the unknown which is Monday and went to bed early (as usual). Tuesday morning I received a call from the daycare that Jonah had already had 3 runny poops (sorry for the detail) and that I needed to pick him up and he would need to be out the following day as well. I cannot tell you how annoyed this makes me. It happens way too frequently and it's ALWAYS due to teething. That's a story for a whole other post though. So, I decided to take a little trip to Myrtle Beach to stay the night with my best friend and her family who were there for vacation. We had a blast but Thursday was rough... just like Monday! Anywho, long story short, I meant to post this way earlier in the week but just haven't had a chance with all of the insanity. However, I think it worked out perfectly considering today is Morgan and Garrett's 5 year anniversary! Anytime I'm "missing" for a few days from the world wide web, just take comfort knowing I'm doing something extremely important- living my life. ;)

Now on to the good part! Morgan and Garrett are the lucky winners of the lasting love story contest! We actually went to Sunday School together and Morgan saw my post on FB and entered immediately. I love that they've been together since 2000- the same year my husband and I got together and their son was born one day before Jonah- so many similarities! They've faced life's challenges together and made it through some extremely difficult times. Marriage is definitely full of ups and downs, but it's such an incredible ride and I'm so excited Morgan and Garrett have lasting love!

Morgan, thank you so much for sharing your story with me. I cannot wait until our shoot later this month! It's going to be so much fun!

The story is so much better from Morgan though:

On August 6th, Garrett and I will be having our 5th wedding anniversary. It all started in February 2000 when I was in 11th grade and he was in 12th. We met inadvertantly on the basketball court at our church. He played ball and I kept score. After the games on Saturday nights several of us would go out to a movie and something to eat. Garrett went out with us on this particular night, but my sister was the one that had the crush on him. Garrett had other plans and didn't care for my sister much. We sat through the movie and after talking through it, we ended up walking out holding hands. This began everything for us. Some how the church became a special place for us because we had our first kiss in the parking lot. At that time, I felt like I was walking on clouds. We dated throughout the rest of high school and college. Knowing that we couldn't afford getting married while in college, we stayed separately at our parents house and traveled back and forth to see one another. While the time felt like it was going to be forever before we would be married and live together, now it feels like it went past in a minute.

February 13th, 2005 Garrett proposed after a dinner at Kabotos. It was great and very surprising. Later that year on August 6th we were married. It was a wedding that was simple and I was so giddy throughout it all. So much so, I couldn't stop bouncing at the wedding. I haven't heard the end of that yet. It wasn't a time to cry, but a time for joy. I was marrying my best friend for the past five years and finally we could share our lives together each other.

Throughout our married life we have looked towards the postive things that have happened. We've bought a house, we added a little munchkin in 2008, and always make sure to take time for ourselves. Times are tough when he goes out of town, but I always look forward to when he gets back home. Our love was really tested earlier this year when we found out we were pregnant with our second child. At 9 weeks we found it was a tubal pregnancy and would have to be removed immediately. This was the first time we were both left speechless with nothing much to say. We loved this little kid and didn't want to give him/her up, but neither I nor the baby would make it through the pregnancy. The weeks after that were tougher on me, but Garrett looked toward the positive side. We had one little boy and we can try again. Now we await whether we are pregnant in the next couple of months. Through a time like that, your love really grows and feels like we can get through anything. Now it's a time to look towards the future and the many years to come.

Morgan and Garrett!!!! Woohooo!! I'm so excited to have the opportunity to photograph such a sweet couple- and maybe even a super cute almost two year old! I'm off to bed now so that I'm not dying tomorrow at work and then we're off to a weekend with friends and family back home in TN. I'll post another post after we get back with details of this incredible story that shows why this couple won. :o)
